If we want abundance in our lives, it often comes in the form of blessings through helping others.
Have you ever heard “The Lord helps those who help themselves.” While this verse doesn’t appear word for word anywhere in the Bible, there’s plenty of other scripture to back up the phrase, attributed to Benjamin Franklin. The old saying means we shouldn’t sit idly hoping for a miracle. Rather, we receive blessing through helping others as a function of a life principle. The greatest secret to abundance is blessings through helping others. We cannot receive fully until we invest and give away of ourselves.
Truth is, God helps all of those who ask…even if it isn’t in quite the way we are expecting help.
How many times have you prayed for something and the result wasn’t what you had hoped for?
My own faults and sins are too numerous to count. I haven’t lived in a way that always pleases God and will never be anywhere close to perfection in this lifetime. While I’m working every day to improve myself, pay my debts & help those who are close to me… if that’s really the end of my focus, it would be terribly selfish.
Whatever we do to serve others around us – even through small acts of kindness – may not impact the world as a whole, yet it can make a positive influence on one more person. On their world. In their life. Isn’t that important? It is also doing The Lord’s work when we serve others.
Not to preach scripture but to illustrate the point, Jesus said:
Inasmuch as you have done unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done unto me. Matt 25:40 KJV
To help other people in whatever way we can is the calling of each of us. Reaching out and serving other people is the greatest act of kindness and love. It’s the example that Jesus Christ gave to us through His ministry on Earth.
So, while it may be true that The Lord helps those who help themselves, He truly and abundantly blesses those who help others.
